  • Up to 6 people can use one Google One plan.
  • Nobody else has to pay extra.

The What

Google One plans from Basic and up can include you plus 5 more people, for 6 in all, at no added cost. A few benefits stay with the plan manager.

The Why

If people in your home each pay for Google storage, one shared plan could cover all of you. Some perks only go to the person who manages the plan, so it helps to know which.

  • Gemini and Search can use your Gmail, Photos and Drive.
  • It only happens if you say yes.

The What

Google's privacy policy now says Search and Gemini can use your Gmail, Photos and Drive to shape their results, if you allow it. It also describes a new feature called Personal Intelligence.

The Why

If you use Gmail or Google Photos, this decides whether what's in them can shape Gemini's answers. Whether it's on for you depends on a choice you may have already made.

  • Google may use places you searched from to guess your location.
  • The section on EU and UK rights was removed.

The What

Google's policy explains more about how search and app activity is saved to your account and shapes results and AI answers. If personalization is on, places you searched from before can help estimate your location.

The Why

Google may save more of what you search and do in apps, and use it to tailor what it shows you. If you are in the EU or UK, the rights details you relied on may now be somewhere else.

  • Google One in India now lists a different company as provider.
  • The service itself does not change.

The What

In India, the terms used to name Google Ireland Limited as India's provider, with Google Digital Inc. covering the rest of Asia Pacific. Now Google Digital Inc. covers all of Asia Pacific.

The Why

If you buy Google One in India, the company named in your contract appears to have changed. The service works the same, but who you deal with on paper is different.

  • Google now says which company handles your data in Europe.
  • It also explains the legal reasons it gives.

The What

Google's policy swaps its old history controls for new Activity Controls. A new section for Europe says which Google company is in charge of your data in each place, and why it uses it, including to train AI.

The Why

People in the UK, the EEA or Switzerland can now see who is responsible for their data. For everyone else, the main change is new wording for how your activity is saved.

  • Google may now save more kinds of media you share.
  • Your history settings are split into two parts.

The What

Google's list of data now covers pictures, files, sound and video you share, not just voice and audio. It also splits one activity setting into two.

The Why

What you upload or capture with your camera or mic could be saved to your Google account. Whether it is saved depends on which history settings you have turned on.

  • Google's ad tools can tie together your activity on sites and apps.
  • Private browsing does not stop sites sharing with Google.

The What

Google's policy now describes its ad and analytics services as a group that may tie together what you do on sites and apps. It says more plainly that Incognito mode won't stop sites from sharing with Google.

The Why

Your activity on other websites that use Google's tools may be tied to what you do elsewhere. There is a setting that limits what gets saved, and the full note says where.

  • If Google One raises your price, you have to agree to it.
  • If you don't, your plan will be canceled.

The What

If a Google One price rise needs your yes and you say no, your plan will now be canceled. The old wording said it may be canceled, and refund questions now go to the seller.

The Why

Saying no to a new price now ends your plan rather than possibly keeping it. Refunds depend on who sold you the plan, and there is a deadline to cancel before the new charge.

  • Timeline is the new name for Location History.
  • Google says your saved addresses can be used for ads.

The What

Google renamed Location History to Timeline and changed for more useful ads to just for ads when describing home and work addresses. It also says your data can help measure ad campaigns.

The Why

The new wording is more direct that your location data can feed ads and ad tracking. Your settings may work the same, but it helps to know how Timeline and your saved addresses get used.

  • Google One now has AI credits that can expire.
  • You lose unused credits if your plan ends.

The What

Google added a section on AI credits, which you pay for ahead of time to use some AI features. They expire on a schedule, can't be sold or moved, are worth no cash and are lost if your plan ends.

The Why

Once you cancel or the plan ends, credits you paid for may be gone. Google can also change the number of credits each action uses, and family members can see how many you've used.
